THE DESTINATION

Where the Maps

Run Out

Deep in the Indonesian archipelago lie islands so remote, so untouched, they've earned their name. The Forgotten Isles are not a destination you stumble upon — they're one you earn. And what waits beneath their surface is nothing short of extraordinary.

A hammerhead shark swims through clear blue water, surrounded by a small school of fish.

PRISTINE CORAL WALLS

Expect long, dramatic walls draped in some of the healthiest hard and soft coral you'll find anywhere on earth. These reefs have barely been touched.

A vibrant coral reef teeming with colorful coral formations and various small tropical fish swimming in clear blue water.

HAMMERHEAD TERRITORY

The Forgotten Islands are rapidly gaining a legendary reputation for both schooling and solitary hammerhead shark encounters — some of the most dramatic shark diving in all of Southeast Asia.

A scuba diver explores a colorful coral reef near a rock wall, with light filtering through the deep blue ocean above.

UNTOUCHED SEAMOUNTS

Immaculate, current-swept seamounts rise from the deep, concentrating pelagic life in stunning density. Every dive feels like a first dive.

A Note on Logistics

Indonesia is a sprawling archipelago, and getting to the truly remote corners of it requires a few connections. We've done this route before and will guide you every step of the way — from which domestic flights to book to which hotels make sense if an overnight layover is needed.

Domestic flight pricing is estimated at 2023 rates; we'll provide updated figures as departure approaches. Final airfare and add-on pricing will be confirmed 12 months prior to departure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything You Need to Know Before You Go

  • What is the estimated total trip budget when airfare is included?

Plan for approximately $12,000–$13,000 per person for the full trip including international and domestic airfare. The base liveaboard cost is $9,060, international roundtrip airfare from DC is estimated at $2,000 in economy class, and domestic Indonesia flights are estimated at $1,000 based on 2023 rates. If you add the optional Bali extension, budget an additional $2,000 per person. All airfare and add-on pricing is subject to change; final confirmed figures will be available approximately 12 months prior to departure.

  • What experience level do I need to participate in this trip?

This trip is best suited for certified divers who are comfortable with open-water conditions, current diving, and blue-water environments. The Forgotten Islands feature wall dives, seamounts, and exposed sites where currents can be significant — the same currents that concentrate the spectacular marine life. That said, the Arenui carries 5 dedicated divemasters who cater to a range of experience levels and skill sets. If you have questions about whether your certification level and experience are appropriate, give us a call and we'll talk through it honestly.

  • Is nitrox available and how much does it cost?

Yes, nitrox is available as an upgrade but is not included in the base price. The nitrox upgrade is priced at an additional $150 for the trip. If you're a nitrox-certified diver, this is a worthwhile addition — extended bottom times on multiple dives per day add up significantly over a 12-day itinerary. Let us know at the time of booking if you'd like to add this on.

  • How many guests and crew are on board the Arenui?

The Arenui accommodates a maximum of 16 guests, which keeps the experience intimate and ensures personalized attention throughout the voyage. The vessel operates with a crew of 23, including 5 dedicated divemasters. That crew-to-guest ratio — nearly 1.5 crew members per guest — is exceptional by any standard and is one of the things that sets the Arenui experience apart from larger, more crowded liveaboard operations.

  • How do I reserve my spot and is a deposit required?

To reserve your cabin, contact Aquanautics LLC directly by phone at 410-768-2782 or by email at info@aquanauticsllc.com. Given that the Arenui carries a maximum of 16 guests, cabins on a trip of this caliber fill well in advance. We recommend reaching out as early as possible to secure your spot and discuss deposit and payment schedule details. Our team will walk you through everything you need to know to get confirmed.

  • I've never done a liveaboard before. Is this trip appropriate for a first-timer?

Absolutely — in fact, many divers find that a well-crewed, luxury liveaboard like the Arenui is an ideal introduction to liveaboard diving. The high crew-to-guest ratio means you're never navigating the experience alone, and the Arenui's divemasters are experienced at orienting new liveaboard guests to the rhythm of shipboard life. The key prerequisite isn't liveaboard experience — it's comfort and confidence in the water. If you dive regularly, handle current reasonably well, and are ready for an immersive adventure, this trip will exceed every expectation you bring to it.

Spots Are Limited

The Arenui carries a maximum of 16 guests — and this is a once-in-a-career destination. When these cabins are gone, they're gone. Don't let the Forgotten Isles slip through your fingers.
